are still manually piloted.
Active radar seekers would enable any interceptor to launch autonomously, but at six figures per unit they cost significantly more than the targets they are meant to intercept.

The same seeker supports two modes of employment. It can carry an interceptor to the target on its own after launch, or feed live target telemetry back to a pilot flying manually — closing the gap between the cueing network and visual acquisition.
The interceptor launches on a fire control cue from the C2 network and flies out under radar guidance. The seeker acquires the target beyond visual range and hands off to terminal guidance for the final intercept — no pilot in the loop.
For crews flying manually, the seeker streams live target range and bearing back down the link. The pilot sees the target on their display long before it is visible — at distance, at night, and through fog, smoke, and rain.
